Elizabeth Stampede Rodeo has been named 2013 Rodeo of the year by the Women’s Professional Rodeo Association (WPRA)
WPRA is the oldest standing women’s sports association. Originally named the Girl’s Rodeo Association (GRA), it was founded in 1948 by 38 Texas women. In 1981 the name was changed to its current form. Today although barrel racers dominate, the organization also sanctions tie-down roping, team roping, and breakaway roping events. More than 2,500 WPRA members can compete for millions of dollars in prize money each year in over 1,300 approved events during 500 rodeos.
