2014 Veterans Honored

Each year the Stampede Sunday performance is designated the Red White and Blue Rodeo. We honor veterans for their service to the country. This year’s three honorees are Ken Bennett, Kaylon Ross, and Merrill Adams. Ken Bennett began his military service in 1957 by enlisting in the army. Ken’s first assignment was in Korea but he was soon sent to Vietnam for two tours. During his 11 year army career, he earned the rank of Sergeant Major. Shhhhhh.  Hear it?  The low hum of young minds reading all over Elbert County. Five local elementary schools and 1,500 children are participating in our Stampede To Read program. Readers who complete their reading lists over the next four weeks receive a free ticket to the rodeo. Now in its fifth year, Stampede to Read is hosted by the Community Relations Committee and jointly funded by the Rodeo and the  Elizabeth Stampede Foundation.
